Pinky Gillum Salmon Rod 9' 3/2 #7/8

632

A Pinky Gillum light salmon rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tips, marked serial # I-840. It weighs 6.1 ounces on my scale though the label states that it is 6 3/8 ounces (refreshing to see something underweighted rather than over!). Fast action. No listed line weight but it felt to me like it would throw a 7 or 8 nicely. Excellent used condition. There is a small dent in the reel seat spacer, and the grip is "tanned" with hand soiling. There are also some cracks at the ferrule wraps from casting and a spot of brassing to the lip of the Super Z ferrules. It does have an overwrap in between the top two guides on the mid section, about 1 1/4” long and over a set of nodes, though I can’t see anything physically wrong with the area underneath. It seems like a protective wrap to me, possibly for scratches. However other than that and the minimal wear, this rod is in great shape. The varnish is excellent and the rod is straight as a pin. The rod is glued with resorcinol and the nodes are in a 2-opposed construction. Perfection stripper and oxidized Super Z ferrules. Wraps are brown with black, yellow, and black edges at the keeper and male ferrules. 7" long western style grip. A nice uplocking screw lock made in Gillum's shop and stamped "HS Gillum, Maker". The wood spacer is a curly spanish cedar. The rod comes with a handsome Gillum fighting butt. Original tube with the Gillum paper label that is about 90% intact and the original outer rod tube bag with a nice pocket for the fighting butt. Gillums of this quality rarely come to market today!
